Barbara Glacel

Barbara is an executive coach with twenty-five years experience of coaching executives around the world in industry and government. She specializes in working with senior executives, executive teams, and boards in order to facilitate alignment, synergy, communication, and change. She is recognized for challenging individuals and teams to reflect on the impact of their own behaviour while influencing the behaviour of others.

Her experience inside corporations provides her with a clear understanding of organizational politics and business dynamics. She worked as a manager at the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) in Alaska, for the Hay Consultants in Washington, D.C., and as CEO for VIMA International, a leadership consulting firm with worldwide clients. Her tenure as a professor of political science and business at the University of Alaska provides the theoretical underpinnings for her work.

Through her coaching experiences, she has observed the ability of individuals to recognize the impact of their behaviour and to make changes that directly impact the success and profitability of their teams and organizations. She has guided executives to make good decisions through her style of questioning and challenging their assumptions and their behaviour.

Recent Coaching Assignments:

  • CEO of the European operations of a major credit card company who needed to build a cohesive and aligned team while growing the business aggressively. He needed to work on his own aggressive behaviour and allow his team to catch up to his vision so they could implement it with him.
  • CEO of a non-governmental organization who had outgrown her team and needed to build a new team to address strategic issues of the future. She worked on her communication style, her team building skills, and her ability to translate her vision into concrete expectations and objectives for the team.
  • CTO of an international organization who needed to build a multi-national team of IT service providers to a demanding multinational customer base. She needed to work on influence skills and patience as she increased her team capacity and accepted the requirements of her customers.
